Grok Bot: what it is, what it costs and what it can really do

Grok Bot is the new AI agent from the company behind Grok. Here is the plain-English version: how it works, who can use it, what it costs, and where it still falls short.

Short answer

Grok Bot lets you create AI helpers (“Bots”) that each do a job for you on a cloud computer, using your apps and a web browser, and asking before they send, buy or delete anything. It launched in beta on August 11, 2026. New customers get it with The X Subscription from $30 a month.

What Grok Bot actually is

Grok Bot is an AI agent product from SpaceXSI, the company most people still call xAI. Instead of answering one question and stopping, it lets you create named helpers, called Bots, that each have a job and keep working in the background. The company describes them as “always-on AI teammates.”

It is a separate product from the regular Grok chatbot. You chat with Grok to get answers. You give a Grok Bot a task, and it goes and does it: it can open websites, use your connected apps, send drafts for your approval and repeat the job on a schedule.

How it works, in plain terms

  • Each Bot has a job. For example “check my inbox every morning and draft replies” or “track this order until it arrives”.
  • It runs on a computer in the cloud. Every user gets one cloud computer that all their Bots share, so the work continues when your laptop is closed.
  • It uses your apps and the web. You connect apps like Gmail, Slack, Notion or GitHub. Where a site has no connection, the Bot uses a real web browser.
  • It asks before big actions. Sending, publishing, buying and deleting can pause for your approval. You can turn some approvals into “always allow”.
  • It can learn routines. Once a job works, you can save it as a routine that runs on a schedule or when an email arrives.

People who already pay for older SuperGrok or Cursor plans keep their access. All the details, including the free trial and usage limits, are on Grok Bot pricing.

Is it worth trying?

Reviewers who used it for weeks say it does well on narrow, repeatable jobs with a clear finish line, such as a daily report or watching a package. They are more cautious about letting it run a business: usage limits can run out fast, the browser part is fragile, and all your Bots share one computer and one set of logins. We cover those problems honestly on Grok Bot limits and problems.

Our advice: start with one boring, low-risk job you already do by hand, run it with approvals on for a week, and only then let it run on a schedule.
