Grok voices and personalities: Ara, Eve, Leo, Rex and more
The named voices in Grok voice mode, the personalities you can pair them with, which ones are adult-only, and how it works in Tesla cars.
The Grok app’s voices include Ara, Eve, Leo, Rex, Sal and Gork, and the developer API offers 28 built-in voices. You also pick a personality, from Assistant and Storyteller to adult modes like Unhinged and Sexy. In Teslas, only Assistant can control the car.
The voices in the Grok app
The Grok app offers a set of named voices. Third-party guides list these six, and the app adds or renames voices from time to time:
| Voice | How it sounds |
|---|---|
| Ara | Upbeat, female |
| Eve | Soothing, female |
| Leo | British, male |
| Rex | Calm, male |
| Sal | Smooth, male |
| Gork | Lazy, deliberately goofy male |
Developers get a larger set: the official docs list 28 built-in voices for the API, with “Eve” as the default.
Personalities
Separately from the voice, you pick a personality that changes how Grok talks. Reported options include:
- Everyday: Assistant, Storyteller, Meditation, Motivation, a doctor-style “Doc” and a therapist mode
- For kids: Kids Story Time and Kids Trivia Game
- Edgy (adults): Unhinged, Argumentative, Conspiracy, Romantic and Sexy
Some voices and personalities are English-only, and the list changes between app versions and countries.
Voices in Tesla cars
In a Tesla, personalities range “from Storyteller to Unhinged”, in Tesla’s words. Only the Assistant personality can run navigation and car commands. See Grok Tesla commands.
How to change voice or personality
- Start voice mode in the Grok app.
